Goals and Updates Since 2024 – We’ve made progress on several fronts, with some successes already in place and others still in development.
Mobile Friendliness
The website has been improved for mobile users, including the forums. We’ve introduced several techniques to achieve this, but it remains a work in progress. A few areas still need adjustments, and upcoming features currently in testing will also need to meet our mobile-friendly standards. Since devices and browsers keep evolving, optimizing for mobile will always be an ongoing effort.Private Messaging
Private messaging has been restored, allowing all users to message each other again. This feature was previously delayed while we explored integrating private messaging with MatchComs in a unified system. However, we’ve shifted our focus toward separating competitive matches from the site’s regular routines, which simplified the decision. Opening our Discord publicly also influenced this direction. While there may still be future links between private messaging, MatchComs, and Discord, we’ve re-enabled a straightforward, classic private messaging system so members have a reliable tool available right now.Profile Tools and Avatars
We’ve begun rolling out profile-building features. Members can now add personal links to platforms like YouTube, X, and Twitch directly on their Global Warfighter League profile. We’ve also moved away from WordPress’ reliance on Gravatar. Instead of auto-loading avatars based on email addresses, members can now upload their own avatars or select from site-provided options. Gravatar is no longer queried at all. In addition, we’re introducing a default avatar for members who haven’t chosen one, though we’re still ironing out some functionality issues. This too is an active work in progress.Leaderboards
Restoring the old leaderboards in a “read-only” format is still on the roadmap. Progress has been made, but priorities like site stability and architectural improvements have taken precedence. The permanent public launch of the GWL Discord and related testing also pushed the timeline back. That said, it hasn’t been forgotten. We’ve already added an Esports page showing all esports titles in our database tied to ladders, tournaments, and seasonal leagues that will eventually connect back to the archived leaderboards.Ongoing Updates
