One of the biggest changes returning Global Warfighter League members will notice compared to the legacy old-school version of the league is how competition management works. In the past, GWL competition was largely built from the top down. Senior Staff would reach out to gaming communities and ask if they were interested in using our ladders, tournaments, leagues, and events for their competitive scene.

When a community joined, a few members would usually volunteer or take the lead. GWL would grant them Game Admin access, and they would then build out their own support staff, including Ladder Admins, Tournament Admins, and Support Admins. These admins were given access to manage their specific competitions within the GWL backend.

Those communities still governed themselves through their own websites, forums, or gathering spaces outside of GWL. However, when it came to their competitive side, they would use GWL, and sometimes other competition sites, to organize ladders, tournaments, leagues, and match reporting.

Over time, as more clans and competitive communities gathered here, we began preloading game infrastructures for new titles. That meant we would set up ladders, rules, competitive structures, and sometimes even staff ahead of time so existing members could simply join and start competing when a new game launched.

That system worked well when players were interested. Our old rule of thumb was that if a ladder reached 10 players or teams, we would officially start competition for that ladder. If the ladder became popular, we would build a tournament around it.

The downside was obvious: if we preloaded a game that no one ended up playing, it often meant wasted time and effort. That approach is changing.

Today, every Warfighter at Global Warfighter League has the ability to create their own competitions. Instead of waiting for staff to decide which games or ladders should be built, members can now create competitions for the games they actually want to play.

To create a competition, go to your profile, click the “Esports” tab, then select the “Create” subtab. From there, the system will walk you through the process of creating your own competition at GWL for your game of choice.

You can set up your own rules, images, staff, and other competition details. Once created, your competition becomes available immediately and can begin accepting competitors right away. The backend tools are already in place for admins and their staff, including MatchComms, co-admin permissions, referee permissions, match reporting, wins, losses, and ELO calculations.

At this time, Warfighters can create Solo Ladders for individual players. Competitive Team Ladders are already in development and will be added as the system continues to expand.

If you are testing the system, please add the word “Test” to the beginning of your ladder title. For example: “Test 1v1 Sniper”. You can name the ladder anything you want, but adding “Test” at the beginning lets other Warfighters and staff know that it is only for testing and not an officially active ladder from the creator.

Players can still join these test ladders, run test challenges, report wins and losses, and use the full ELO calculation system. We genuinely want you to flesh out the system and be comfortable with it.

That being said, Warfighters are also welcome to create REAL Solo Ladders that are not tests. The core functionality is already working, including ladder setup, player challenges, MatchComms, win/loss reporting, and ELO tracking.

This is a major step toward making GWL more player-driven. Instead of staff guessing which games or competitions the community wants, Warfighters can now build the competitive spaces they want to see.
